The MCAA Masonry Chair in Masonry Systems is a three-million dollar endowed research Chair funded by the Masonry Contractors Association of Alberta (North) and the Government of Alberta’s Access to the Future Fund. The current chairholder is Dr. Carlos Cruz-Noguez.
An integral part of the mandate of the MCAA Masonry Chair is to develop and teach academic and professional courses in the design and analysis of masonry systems and masonry building envelopes. The ongoing and planned research projects under the Chair’s mandate aim consist of developing innovative masonry systems and design techniques, studying the unexploited capabilities of modern and traditional masonry, and investigating the safety and durability of masonry structures. |
The MCAA Endowed Chair works closely with a multidisciplinary team of academics at the UofA, and industry partners such as contractors, architects, engineers, building officials, suppliers, block manufacturers, and several scientific/technical organizations dedicated to the advancement of masonry research, development, marketing, and innovation.
